OFCOM system approval for the SecuriDrone RF Cyber drone defence system

Securiton AG integrates, distributes and leases drone safety systems to protect the population and critical infrastructure from the danger posed by drones.

November 2023 saw Securiton AG receive OFCOM system approval from the Swiss Federal Office of Communications OFCOM for its SecuriDrone RF Cyber drone defence system. The new technology enables the detection of drones and their pilots on the one hand, and defence against uncooperative drones on the other – without resorting to undesirable jamming or kinetic means (projectiles, laser, etc.).

Use of the new cyber technology is new in Switzerland and, in the case of the SecuriDrone defence system, facilitates the controlled takeover of the third-party drone. In particular, the controlled takeover can minimise potential collateral damage, which often results from uncontrolled drone crashes. Deployment of the SecuriDrone RF Cyber active defence system is restricted to certain authorities, including police, law enforcement and penitentiary authorities, the Federal Intelligence Service, the Armed Forces and authorities responsible for conducting searches for criminals on the run and victims of emergencies. The operating licence for the RF Cyber drone takeover function is granted by OFCOM on the basis of an application from an authorised authority.

The need for protection against uncooperative drones is now becoming ubiquitous. It ranges from events featuring large crowds such as festivals and sporting and political events to safeguarding personal or corporate privacy. The guarding of persons protected under international law and the safeguarding of operations in places such as airports, heliports, energy and communications facilities, etc. also have a significant impact.

The SecuriDrone RF Cyber technology saw repeated usage at the World Economic Forum in January 2024, among others.
