University of Bern: Security technology that grows with the infrastructure.

The University of Bern is one of Switzerland’s major higher education and its institutes, faculties and research centres are spread across the city. Historic buildings meet modern architecture, a wide range of uses meet complex technical systems. This evolved structure places high requirements in terms of operation, networking and, above all, a reliable level of security for teaching, research and administration.

For several years now, Securiton has ensured that the fire protection of this complex environment functions reliably. The central elements include 16 SecuriFire 3000 fire alarm control panels and well over 3,000 installed point detectors, hand switches, sirens and flashing lights that are used in the buildings. They guarantee early detection and clear alarm transmission in the event of an incident.

Modernisation successfully implemented during ongoing operations

A key milestone was the comprehensive modernisation of the system during ongoing university operations. All fire detectors were replaced in accordance with legal requirements and the control panel was updated at the same time. In addition, additional sirens were installed to further improve audibility. The result is a uniform, high-performance solution that integrates all relevant areas and meets current requirements.

Video surveillance for greater transparency and traceability

The university also makes targeted use of modern technologies in the field of video surveillance. On Hochschulstrasse, the Milestone system supports the traceability of incidents in sensitive areas such as bicycle parking facilities. The cameras meet the requirements of the DIN EN 62676-4 standard and are configured for the observation target. At the same time, their presence has a preventive effect.

In the Ruminant Clinic, SecuriEye Smart supplements the security architecture with a cloud-based video surveillance solution. It enables flexible access via the web or smartphone and increases the transparency of operations.

The current security infrastructure at the University of Bern is the result of a long-standing collaborative partnership with Securiton.
