World Economic Forum 2023
Safeguarding the airspace with an innovative anti-drone security system.
Mid-January 2023 saw the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum take place in the magical ambience of the winter sports and spa town of Davos in Canton Graubünden; its motto – “Collaboration in a fragmented world”. More than 2700 political and business representatives from 130 countries gathered in the midst of the winter wonderland to discuss promising solutions, goals and innovative technologies at numerous events. The topics ranged from climate protection and inflation to food security and the war in Ukraine. Heads of state, high-level government officials, heads of international organisations, representatives of the climate movement and scientific experts came together in a variety of ways for discussions, events and workshops.
Strict security precautions were imperative for the international gathering, which included hundreds of heads of state and ministers protected by international law. On duty were thousands of security personnel culled from the police and armed forces as well as border guards, with about half of Switzerland’s 5000 professional soldiers assigned to the event.
Safety from the air.
Our SecuriDrone anti-drone security system was deployed at the World Economic Forum for the first time. Its mission: to provide protection against unauthorised drones. SecuriDrone provides early warning of drones in restricted airspace by identifying the location of the device and its pilot so that security forces can intervene. If the pilot is not quickly apprehended, SecuriDrone can take command of the drone using RF Cyber technology and land it in a controlled manner at a predefined, safe location without frequency band interference (a.k.a. jamming).
SecuriDrone impressed in active use with its functionality, performance and user-friendliness. In particular, the innovative RF Cyber technology, which works with minimal antenna infrastructure, proved to be groundbreaking. Unpredictable conditions such as the weather, technical challenges posed by busy bandwidths, urban signal reflections and the demand for rapid responses in the event of danger underscore SecuriDrone’s effectiveness as a safe and secure solution. Our UewSyst mobile perimeter monitoring system also contributed to our successful presence at the WEF.
In an interesting interview, Markus Eggenberger, head of Canton Graubünden’s security police, provided insights into the latent danger posed by modern-day drones.
