Grosshof prison
Video security is at the heart of the security concept.
Nestled in the green hills of Kriens, Grosshof prison has undergone a transformation of its security system. With input from our innovative partner SeeTec, it now benefits from our advanced IP video security and management systems. Together we have created a state-of-the-art network-based security system. Grosshof prison (which incorporates a pre-trial detention centre) in Kriens is one of the most advanced and secure institutions in the Swiss penal system. Behind its walls, it offers not only cells for up to 87 inmates, but also workplaces, visitor rooms, protected open-air areas, a library and even a gym. Security in the facility and the administrative area is ensured by a team of 52 dedicated staff. They are responsible for checking people at entrances and exits, examining incoming goods, carrying out cell inspections, and operating the safety/security management system that controls fire detection, intrusion and escape system and video surveillance components.
Partnership with SeeTec paves the way.
The root-and-branch modernisation of the prison also saw the security and communication centre renovated, in particular the video security system at its core. Here, the prison opted for pioneering products supplied by us and our partner SeeTec. The planners judged SeeTec’s IP-based video management software to be indispensable, and our long-standing successful collaboration with SeeTec played a decisive role in the awarding of the contract. To ensure comprehensive video security both indoors and outdoors, 32 new IP cameras were installed, while the 42 existing analogue cameras were integrated into the network via a video server. The connection to the security management system takes place via an OPC interface for optimal interoperability with the SeeTec video management software.
Keeping a central eye on the essentials.
Grosshof prison is impressed by the new video system, seeing it as the optimal solution for the future. Four monitors were installed at two independent workstations to provide a clear view of the camera images. The user interface is simpler and the viewing of images more operator friendly than before. Simple mouse movements control the graphical elements, while switching quickly between different security and communication applications is easy. The new system’s expansion options and the gradual switchover from analogue to IP cameras featuring megapixel technology for even higher image resolution promise a secure future for Grosshof prison.
