WEF 2023-2025

Proven airspace security at the WEF since 2023

Maximum safety from the air: the innovative SecuriDrone drone security system has been protecting the airspace above the WEF Annual Meeting since 2023 – a tried-and-tested solution for the public sector, authorities and administrations.

Every year in January, the winter sports and spa resort of Davos in Canton Graubünden forms the backdrop for the prestigious Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF). Around 3,000 representatives from the worlds of politics, business and science meet here to discuss global challenges such as climate protection, inflation, food security and geopolitical tensions. The aim of the events is to develop solutions, measures and innovations. High-level decision-makers – including heads of state, government and business representatives, as well as experts from international organisations – gather for numerous discussions, workshops and events in a bid to shape the future.

Demanding security requirements for high-ranking attendees

The safety of the high-ranking participants – including heads of state and ministers – is a top priority. Thousands of personnel take part every year, including the police, the armed forces and border guards. The Swiss Army alone deploys around 5,000 personnel throughout the country to ensure the event’s safety.

Safety from the air – SecuriDrone in action

Securiton is regularly in action at the WEF event, securing the airspace with its SecuriDrone drone security system. The system enables early detection and defence against unauthorised drones. SecuriDrone does so by precisely locating both drone and pilot – whether in closed airspace or during mobile operations such as accompanying convoys.

If the pilot cannot be pin-pointed promptly, SecuriDrone takes control of the drone using RF Cyber technology and brings it to the ground safely – without the use of jammers or kinetic defence methods.

The system impresses through its:

  • Maximum reliability: it reacts rapidly to threat scenarios for optimal protection.
  • Innovative RF Cyber technology: minimal antenna requirement ensures maximum efficiency.
  • Robust functionality: faced with adverse weather conditions, frequency-related challenges and urban reflections, the system remains powerful and user-friendly.

In addition, Securiton’s mobile perimeter monitoring system makes a key contribution to the security of the WEF event and complements the comprehensive measures taken to protect the venue.

Insights into the current dangers posed by drones

In an interesting interview, Markus Eggenberger, head of Graubünden’s security police, sheds light on the growing risks posed by drones and the importance of emerging technologies for public security.
