Festhalle Bernexpo: Security for a new event experience

The new Festhalle on the BERNEXPO grounds officially opened on 25 April 2025 – just in time for the start of the BEA. The state-of-the-art event hall with an area of over 4,300 m², versatile breakout rooms and modular stage concepts opens up new opportunities for events of all sizes. Securiton was responsible for the security-related equipment and installed a comprehensive fire alarm system that was optimally tailored to the specific requirements of the Festhalle.

Installation under pressure – and at great heights

The construction and installation schedule was tight. In particular, work in the up-to-14-metre-high multifunctional hall required employees to have a good head for heights. The catering sector also had special requirements: mobile steamers generate both heat and steam. A combination that can trigger smoke detectors. During the pre-opening, a false alarm occurred because a steamer was operated directly below a detector. Since then, the policy has been that steamers should be deliberately positioned so that they are not directly under a detector – an important detail for smooth operation during events.

Tailor-made solution for flexible use

The fire alarm system was precisely tailored to the highly versatile use of the Festhalle. One particular highlight is the radio smoke detectors under the four-metre-high mobile stage. They were subsequently installed at the request of BERNEXPO and must be removed manually during assembly and dismantling. In total, more than 200 sirens were installed. This is an exceptionally high number that was decided in close consultation with the planners.

Smart technology for greater convenience

With an app connection and remote access, the system offers the operator exceptional ease of use. The system can also be expanded as required – a plus in view of the dynamic requirements of an event venue.

A delightful collaboration

Close and solution-oriented cooperation with the responsible electrician contributed significantly to the smooth running of the project. The teams supported each other on site, which contributed to a very cooperative atmosphere. Another highlight was the defect-free acceptance by the Gebäudeversicherung des Kantons Bern (cantonal buildings insurance company of the Canton of Bern).

Long-standing partnership with a bright outlook

The installation at the new Festhalle is the latest chapter in the long-standing collaboration between Securiton and the BERNEXPO Group. Securiton has handled a variety of safety and security projects on the site over the years – continuity creates trust and a solid foundation for future projects.
