Crans-Montana

It was in 2006 that the intercommunal police in Crans-Montana first used video surveillance cameras. However, they only started using our intelligent SecuriEye technology to recognise vehicle registration plates in 2021. Deputy Police Commander Christian Labalette draws an extremely positive conclusion: thanks to our state-of-the-art technology, criminal offences are down by an impressive 80%.

Finally able to take action.

Fifteen years ago, vandalism during the night hours was a regular occurrence that proved an unsurmountable challenge for the police. Identifying the perpetrators proved impossible; all the police could do was log the incidents. The solution: video security was deployed for the first time in 2006. Today, 211 cameras monitor strategic locations, safeguard public spaces and protect the population, tourists and public property. Christian Labalette emphasises: “Private areas such as balconies are permanently pixelated when the cameras are installed. If we hear of an offence being committed, we can reconstruct the incident using the stored images and, if necessary, identify those responsible.”

An extraordinary success story.

Labalette explains how the video security system works: 
“Our solution is based on two approaches: some 200 cameras monitor the public realm, while ten cameras are devoted to automatic number plate recognition. Signs informs the public that video images are being recorded.”

In the course of modernisation, the police turned to us to find an affordable and reliable solution. When asked about data protection, Labalette stresses: “Video surveillance is a tool that supports us in our work. Considering the 80% drop in crime, one could describe it as video protection. We operate within a strict legal framework: vetted, certified personnel, no access to the servers without good reason, encrypted recordings that can only be accessed with authentication.”
