Basel Messe

A new chapter in the success story of the Basel Messe has been written, with Basel architects Herzog & de Meuron laying the foundations for it with an impressive new building. As Switzerland’s largest and most important trade fair and congress venue, the Basel Messe attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors with events such as “Swissbau” and “Baselworld”. Synonymous with innovation and diversity, the Basel Messe shapes the Swiss trade fair landscape. With five exhibition halls, the Congress Center Basel and its own musical theatre, the location offers an impressive platform for events of all sizes. Following extensive investments and a new building costing 430 million Swiss francs, the exhibition space now covers 141,000 square metres: a dynamic stage, more than half of which is available for multi-storey stands.

Crowds need adequate protection.

In this pulsating heart of the Swiss trade fair scene, safety is paramount. Every year finds the Basel Messe hosting 20 to 25 trade fairs, including “Swissbau,” “Baselworld” and “Art Basel”, all of which set national and international standards. Between 6000 and 8000 exhibitors and some one million visitors place their trust in the safety and security measures that provide protection against fire, theft and other undesirable activities. In the midst of the creative hustle and bustle, we work alongside other Securitas Group companies to ensure an all-round safe experience.

Harmonious strength from the group.

Operated by Securitas staff, the safety and security centre uses our innovative SecuriLink UMS security management system. As the largest system in Switzerland, it monitors and controls all the doors and gates from a central point. The multi-server system delivers precise and timely data to the control centre. In the event of an alarm being raised, the relevant cameras switch in and all alarms are displayed graphically. The centre provides remote control of 820 doors, gates, barriers and emergency exits while seamlessly integrating numerous fire alarm systems incorporating 20,000-plus elements. 
 

Securitas is the undisputed security provider on the trade fair grounds – 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. From the Messe car park to traffic control and the opening/closing of doors and gates, Securitas has everything under control. In emergencies, it rapidly arrives on scene to keep escape routes clear and guide the emergency services directly to the incident. Specialist Securitas operatives keep a watchful eye on trade fair stands during events. 
 

In the halls, a state-of-the-art sprinkler system from Babberger Brandschutz AG, part of the Securitas Group, ensures fast and effective extinguishing. The new exhibition centre alone is equipped with 36 kilometres of pipes incorporating 14,000 sprinkler nozzles, and 26 Babberger fitters on site (and others in at the company’s premises) ensured a successful, rapid installation.
