As a creative melting pot for visionary research and groundbreaking drug development, renowned company Actelion has conquered the stage in the international biopharmaceutical market in the Basel region. The founding vision of four former Hoffmann-La Roche researchers quickly evolved from a pioneer in the fight against pulmonary artery hypertension to a groundbreaker in the synthesis and commercialisation of small molecules for the treatment of rare diseases.

Innovation requires protection.

At the heart of this success story is the Actelion Business Centre in Allschwil as a new architectural landmark. Designed by visionary architects Herzog & de Meuron, the striking building is characterised by its idiosyncratic structure. However, Actelion’s growth not only meant architectural expansion, but also the need for a comprehensive safety and security concept. Securitas AG was selected as a trustworthy security partner, while Securiton took care of fire protection, intrusion protection, access control and security management. 

Protection from the first spade in the ground.

To ensure security throughout the construction phase, the client and contractor deployed Securitas AG staff for access control as well as external and internal checks on weekdays. At the weekend, separate surveillance was on hand to prevent unauthorised access and vandalism. 

Our holistic, integrated solution ensures safety inside the business centre. The professional fire protection system comprises almost 800 combined fire detectors designed to detect barely noticeable heat gain and smoke particles. Thanks to their intelligent electronics, the detectors automatically adapt to ambient conditions. Sensitive technical rooms are monitored by water detectors, while the natural gas supply for the heating is monitored by a gas warning system.

An intrusion alarm system with motion detectors and an access control system protect the building from unwanted visitors. Our SecuriLink UMS security management system provides Actelion with an overview, allowing it to respond promptly to incidents.
