Intrusion protection in autumn begins with awareness
27.10.2025
As the days get shorter, the risk of intrusions increases. Intrusion Protection Day is a reminder of how important proactive action and the right technology are when protecting yourself and your home.
Every year, the risk of intrusions increases when the clocks go back. It already gets dark in the late afternoon – a time that burglars particularly like to take advantage of. Many break-in attempts take place at dusk during the winter, i.e. in the evening. Intrusion Protection Day reminds us: those who prepare in good time can relax going into the winter months.
Under the motto “One more hour for more safety”, the national action day is held annually on the first Monday after the change from summer to winter time. In 2025, this day will therefore fall on 27 October.
Facts about burglaries in Switzerland
A look at current police crime statistics shows that intrusions remain a relevant issue in Switzerland. The latest figures from 2024 show that 46,070 break-ins and thefts after intrusion were reported. That’s more than 120 cases per day throughout Switzerland.
Apartment buildings and single-family homes are at the top of the list of places where perpetrators look for valuables. The majority of intrusions therefore take place in private homes. However, commercial and operational premises are also increasingly being targeted. The data clearly shows that intrusions not only affect private households, but also public and commercial spaces as well:
If you take a closer look, you will see that apartment buildings lead the statistics with around 13,000 cases, followed by single-family homes with around 6,300 cases. Commercial areas such as retail spaces, restaurants and company premises follow, with slightly lower burglary rates per category.
The figures clearly show that intrusion protection is not a niche issue, but affects the everyday feeling of security in living and working environments in equal measure.
Prevention that works
Many recommendations for intrusion protection are well known. Nevertheless, they are often forgotten in everyday life. We use Intrusion Protection Day to raise awareness once again. Here are some simple but effective measures:
- No notices of absence: Avoid posting holiday notices or dates on postboxes or social media. Such information is also visible to intruders.
- Good neighbourliness has a twofold effect: Knowing your neighbours not only ensures a pleasant atmosphere, but also greater security. A brief discussion about holiday plans or anything out of the ordinary you have seen can make a big difference and make it difficult for burglars.
- Always close doors and windows – even during short absences: Burglars usually exploit vulnerabilities and pry open windows or doors in a targeted manner.
- Light is a deterrent: Use lighting with motion detectors outdoors and on entrances and access points.
- Don’t leave out any aids: Ladders, garden furniture or rubbish bins should not be left near windows or balconies.
Modern technologies also help in preventing intrusions or reacting quickly in an emergency.
With the SecuriSafe systems, Securiton offers flexible alarm and security solutions for a wide range of requirements. SecuriSafe Easy is an easily installed intrusion alarm system for private areas and ideal for anyone who wants to secure their home without complications. SecuriSafe Compact provides professional all-round protection around the clock for SMEs. Both systems can be individually configured, networked and conveniently controlled via app or indication and control map.
Intrusion Protection Day reminds us that security begins with awareness and following small habits in everyday life, and that technology is there to support us. After all, those who are prepared can relax heading into winter.
